About Us
We’re Lee and Sachi LeFever, a husband-and-wife team running Common Craft from Orcas Island, Washington. Back in 2007, we created the In Plain English series and helped spark what’s now known as the explainer video genre.
Since then, we've built a library of original videos that is used by educators around the world to make complicated ideas easy to understand. Anyone can purchase and download our videos with a forever license.
Along the way, Lee wrote The Art of Explanation (Wiley, 2012), which has been translated into seven languages, and together we built the Explainer Academy, where we teach the skills of explanation and animated video production.

The right video can work wonders. But for most educators, producing video is time-consuming and expensive. That’s why we created the Common Craft Video Library, a collection of short, ready-to-use videos on subjects that matter. Our specialty is making ideas clear in about three minutes, using simple visuals and a friendly voice-over. Educators use these videos to introduce new topics, set the stage for deeper learning, and ensure everyone sees the big picture.Unlike tutorials or step-by-step walk-throughs, Common Craft videos focus on concepts and context. We tell stories, use analogies, and bring ideas to life. That’s why our videos are trusted in schools, universities, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies in more than 50 countries

Over the years we’ve been honored to be recognized in the Internet and business communities for our ability to make complex subjects easy to understand. Our awards since 2007 include:
